The process of envisioning a concept, making a prototype, tweaking and testing, then finalising the design is hugely satisfying. Using traditional tools and working with raw materials, every item is handcrafted with care. The result is each light shade or luminaire has its own character. Subtle differences between two products made to the same dimensions using the same techniques is true to nature and not about duplication.

Jonny draws on 30 years experience in sculpture, landscape design, construction and art in public spaces. Cast Lighting specialises in handcrafted light shades and luminaires made from reclaimed native timber and locally sourced materials.
I have always been fascinated with light. I’m particularly interested in blending sculptural forms that take on a new dimension when lit up at night. I’m inspired by mid-century design, simple forms and a love of the Aotearoa landscape. Working with locally grown and recycled timber as well as wool, I create something uniquely of this place.
